QCD effects in B decays These lectures provide an introduction to the theoretical tools used to analyze strong interaction effects in B-decays. We discuss effective theories such as heavy quark effective theory and soft-collinear effective theory as well as the operator product expansion used to calculate inclusive decay rates. We show how these methods are used for precision determinations of CKM matrix elements, the calculation of heavy hadron properties and searches for new physics effects.
