Lattice QCD with applications to B physics These lectures will start by introducing the basic ideas of lattice field theory at a simple level. I will include an example of the numerical techniques used, based on quantum mechanics. The second lecture will discuss how to formulate quantum chromodynamics on the lattice: how to ensure gauge invariance and a survey of the difficulties with quarks. In the last lectures, I will use calculations relevant to the CKM matrix to illustrate modern results and their uncertainties.
